Vessel Systems Technician                                      West Coast, Vancouver Island

Cermaq Canada is seeking to fill a full-time role of Vessel Systems Technician for our Saltwater operations.  The Vessel Systems Technician advances the vision of the Production Department by providing leadership and direction to all aspects of the activities related to the physical operation of the vessels designed for sustainable sea lice management and assists with projects that advance the program to meet the strategic mandates of the department.

Job Details:

  • With an awareness of the production cycle, be able to understand the importance of the production of premium quality fish from entry into salt water to plate to ensure maintenance of a high-quality product through the activities of the vessel.
  • Participate in decisions that may impact service levels of the vessel contributing to the maintenance of regulatory thresholds around the management of sea lice in the areas that we operate. 
  • In collaboration with the Vessel Operator, manage the equipment on the vessel in a manner that ensures continuity of operation
  • Collaborates with the Vessel Operator and Treatment Manager to ensure that infrastructure investment and operational budgeting is aligned with effective operations of the vessels, production schedules and advances in technology.
  • Directs programs in place specifically around equipment and vessel inspections, scheduling and tracking maintenance requirements and preparing for vessel certification requirements to ensure proper operational condition both at site or at the dock.
  • Promotes compliance to all safety procedures to ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
  • Promotes a positive workplace that treats all persons with respect and dignity devoid of discrimination, bullying and harassment.
  • Collaborates locally with a focus on customer service that keeps to the corporate commitment

 

Your Position Requirements

  • Experience working on modern vessels with automated systems (mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic) Experience with the set-up, implementation and management of preventative maintenance programs. 
  • Salmon production experience as asset 
  • Prior experience working with strategic budget & production goals.
  • Experience or certification in the operation of equipment such as marine pedestal cranes, winches and capstans.
  • 4th Class Engineer equivalent, ticket an asset but not required.
  • A safety-orientated mindset Camp-based position; operating 8 days on 6 days off the schedule is a minimum of 80-hours bi-weekly.
  • Travel to and from the vessel for shifts is largely arranged by Cermaq. 
  • Capable of regional, national and some international travel by boat, plane, and vehicle.
