iGaming Ontario leads the Province of Ontario’s new, dynamic, internet gaming (igaming) market that, in its first year generated over $35.5 billion in total wagers, which resulted in $1.26 billion in total gaming revenue from over 45 gaming operators and 1.6 million active player accounts. iGaming Ontario is seeking a Senior Advisor, Strategic Communications to join its dynamic team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Engagement and Communications, you will develop and execute iGaming Ontario’s external communication and public relations initiatives and manage media relations for the organization. 


Responsibilities in the role include:

  • Advising on and executing iGaming Ontario’s media relations, external communications, and public relations strategy.
  • Planning, executing and measuring external communication and earned media initiatives to secure positive media coverage.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact and spokesperson for media inquiries, coordinating responses in collaboration with relevant departments and delivering key messages to members of the media.
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with key journalists, editors, and media outlets.
  • Forecasting and proactively identifying possible issues that could affect the organization, preparing response plans for various scenarios as it relates to iGaming Ontario and Ontario’s gaming industry.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • University degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field and three to five years of related experience in areas such as strategic communications and media relations, preferably in a government or highly regulated, high-profile industry setting.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in the gaming sector or a similarly regulated consumer-driven industry.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including crafting effective public-facing content about gambling, financial results or other complex data-driven information.
  • Strong knowledge of media relations practices, including building and maintaining relationships with mainstream and trade reporters specializing in gaming, finance or sports.  
  • Knowledge of stakeholder engagement strategies, including building positive relationships with community leaders, organizations, and influencers.
  • Knowledge of Ontario government communication and issues processes.  
  • Ability to develop and execute communication strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Proven ability to handle high-pressure and sensitive situations with professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with external vendors and internal teams (peers and management) to build buy-in and complete projects on time.
  • Knowledge of digital-first communications in a public sector context, including how to operate within legislative frameworks including AODA, FLSA, CASL and FIPPA.
  • Familiarity with provincial political landscapes and legislative processes.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders and communities.
  • Proficiency in media monitoring tools and analytics.


The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.

This position currently offers a hybrid work location. iGaming Ontario is implementing a minimum three-day per week in-office schedule. iGaming Ontario reserves the right to change this policy and its office location at any time.

This position falls within the scope of a bargaining unit represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). In the upcoming months, iGaming Ontario and OPSEU will be negotiating the terms of a collective agreement which, once concluded, will govern the terms and conditions of this position.
