Role Summary:

As Facility Technician Lead, Centre for Cell and Vector Production, you will report to the Manager, Facility, and provide guidance, coordination and training to other facility technicians, to assure the quality of work and deadlines are met. The Centre for Cell and Vector Production (CCVP) is the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facility operated by CCRM. As Facility Technician Lead, you will be familiar with the different roles of facility technicians, such as environmental monitoring (EM); system maintenance and operation; heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) system operation; scheduling pertinent levels of cleaning; communicating with vendors; and, managing the ticketing system. The person in this role will also be a backup for other operators’ roles when they are unavailable.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides assistance, guidance and direction to other facility technicians and monitors their work quality on a daily basis.
  • Ensures that daily and weekly facility operation schedules are met and coordinates with cross-functional teams for the various projects.
  • Provides direct support to other technicians to assure proper workflow as well as adherence to appropriate standard operating procedures SOPs and accurate documentation. This includes orienting, training and ensuring all technicians and employees, from other departments who work inside CCVP, adhere to the company policies and the right procedures regarding movement, gowning, de-gowning, etc.
  • Maintains familiarity with different CCVP rules such as EM monitoring system operation and maintenance; facility cleaning scheduling and documentation; access and ticketing system management; equipment list management and scheduling services; and, preventative maintenance and calibrations.
  • Covers other technicians’ roles when needed and responds to after-hours critical alarms.
  • Acts as a point of communication between the different departments and the facilities team regarding daily activities and requests, and assigning work to technicians accordingly.
  • Performs documentation review, ensuring Good Documentation Practices are followed.
  • Performs facility-related administrative tasks such as document scanning and responding to document requests from the broader team that operates CCVP.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule, which may include shift work and weekends to support operating schedules, facility requirements and/or responses to call-in emergency situations.
  • Performs any related duties, as assigned.
  • Performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates understanding and being knowledgeable in all facility SOPs.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2-year community college program required in either biology, mechanical engineering technology, building environmental systems technology, instrumentation technology, power engineering, stationary engineering, or recognized equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ experience working in health care or laboratory settings up to and including 3 years practical and related experience and/or 3 months on-the-job training required.
  • Knowledge in instrumentation, HVAC, building operation and biology.
  • Strong understanding of facility and process equipment.
  • GMP knowledge.
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills.
