SUMMARY

This department is responsible for a variety of tasks in the process of manufacturing custom air handling units.  Weld metal from raw materials to complete products or sub components. This specific role would spend a lot of time as a fabricator for plant set up as well as the base department. 

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Weld mild steel, aluminum and stainless steel mig using .035 hard wire

Use of cutting torches and plasma arcs

Use of iron worker saw

Mechanically inclined (several hand and power tools will be used in this department)

Blue-print reading and layout

Measuring, math skills fractions to decimals

Fitting and fabricating metal products

Build a quality product in a timely manner

Work independently with minimal supervision

Work efficiently in a team environment

Coordinate and work well with other departments and teams

Communication both verbal and written

Follow Haakon Industries policies and standards

Lift and carry heavy items

Use 5-S lean manufacturing methods

 

SPECIFIC TASKS

• Overhead cranes
• Follow all safety policies, use all personal protective equipment as required
• Check all of your work for quality and standards as you go through each step
• Maintain a safe, quick and steady pace throughout your work shift
• Using blue prints and measuring
• Use a wide variety of air and electric hand tools to assemble HVAC units
• Weld parts together using wire-feed welders
• Cut metal using a plasma torch

 

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Environment:

All work is done in a climate-controlled building.

 

Be aware of all chemicals you use and come in contact with while doing your assigned tasks.  Protect yourself according to the company safety policies, state and federal standards using MSDS sheets as a guide.

 

Physical demands: 

Seldom lifting and carrying objects up to 80 pounds maximum. Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds. Frequent lifting and carrying objects up to 15 pounds. Constant lifting and carrying objects up to 5 pounds. 

 

Employees are instructed to use forklifts, cranes, hand trucks and the assistance of other employees whenever possible when lifting or carrying heavy objects, particularly those weighing over 80 pounds.
