PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The new Senior Counsel will report to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and will work closely with and support other member(s) of the Office of General Counsel in steering LABC through the legal obstacles and opportunities to better fulfil our mandate and to help the organization achieve its goals in compliance with its obligations. While the Senior Counsel will support on a wide range of matters, including without limitation, corporate, commercial, professional responsibility, litigation, labour and employment, governance and privacy and data management matters, this new role will in particular be required to support in connection with various contracting matters with particular focus (as required) on technology, security, procurement, and services arrangements.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITES:
- reviewing, negotiating and advising on various contractual matters in a manner that achieves business objectives and allows the organization to leverage opportunities while reasonably managing risk considerations;
- reviewing and advising on organizational contracting process matters;
- reviewing and advising on procurement matters;
- reviewing and advising on IP matters as needed;
- assist with matters related to LABC’s legislative framework, MOU with the Ministry of the Attorney General, and privacy and Freedom of Information statutes; and
- providing legal opinions as may be required.
- Extensive experience independently reviewing, drafting, negotiating and advising (as applicable) in respect of commercial agreements including in particular (but not limited to) IT services agreements, end-user license agreements, software as a service agreements, IP and software licensing agreements, and professional services agreements is strongly preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the Law Society of British Columbia.
- At least two (2) years call to the Bar in British Columbia or equivalent experience in another Canadian jurisdiction.
- Experience in a variety of areas of law with particular experience in contracting matters as set out above.
- Experience with equity, diversity, and inclusion in professional settings.
- Understanding of laws and policies affecting Indigenous peoples.
- Experience applying Truth and Reconciliation through one’s role and responsibilities in previous roles.
- Experience applying equity, diversity and inclusion through one’s role and responsibilities in previous roles.
- An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered. You strive to exceed expectations and are a team player.
Technical and Behavioural Competencies
- Excellent lawyering experience and skills.
- Comfortable working with latest legal and compliance technology.
- Ability to be creative, innovative and solutions-based.
