About the role
The Mental Health Program Specialist is responsible for spearheading and supporting the development and execution of capacity-building initiatives and culturally sensitive community mental wellness programs within the Métis Nation of Ontario. Working with a subject matter expert, this role focuses on support program development aimed at equipping our communities with essential resources and training to enhance internal capacity for preventing, intervening in, and responding to traumatic incidents while promoting mental wellness and preventing suicide. Responsibilities encompass coordinating program support, administering activities, facilitating delivery, and assessing the impact of organization-wide programs and services.
What you will be doing
- Coordinate all aspects of the Life Promotion project, including planning, scheduling, and execution of activities and events, ensuring adherence to timelines and resource efficiency.
- Conduct program and project evaluations using various research and evaluation tools.
- Provide administrative support for the project, including record maintenance and report preparation, ensuring compliance with organizational and funding requirements.
- Support planning and implementation of training sessions and workshops, customizing materials to suit the specific cultural context of Metis Nation of Ontario communities.
- Utilize specialized knowledge to convey program deliverables under the guidance of the program manager.
- Implement mechanisms to assess the effectiveness of mental wellness programs, collecting and analyzing data to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for future initiatives.
- Respond to internal and external stakeholder needs as required.
- Collaborate with the team to identify and implement improvements to program effectiveness.
- Partner with internal departments and external agencies to leverage resources and expertise in support of mental wellness initiatives.
- Maintain accurate documentation of program activities and prepare regular progress reports for stakeholders and funders.
- Act within the guidelines of associated professional standards.
- Handle confidential and sensitive issues with tact and discretion.
Qualifications
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens,
- A post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
- Advanced project management skills
- Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal
- Superior organization skills and time/priority-management managing self and others, including the design and implementation of project work plans
- Elevated levels of problem-solving and analytical skills
- Highly detail-oriented
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities
- Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
- Demonstrated ability to assess situations and problem-solve independently
- Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated experience in project management
- Previous 2 years or more experience in a similar/comparable role
- Demonstrated ability to leading a peer group to complete a task, deliverable or project
- Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible when leading in a demanding and dynamic environment
Preferred
- Completion of a Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous policy and research, key challenges, and programs Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous key challenges, and programs
- A post-secondary degree or certification in mental health.
- Completion of a leadership development program or course
- Demonstrated ability to motivate/leverage the skills of a team to complete assigned tasks and deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain focus on work queues or projects with a longer time-line is an asset
Positions at the MNO may require the following:
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
- Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
- A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
- Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
