About the role

The Metis Languages Coordinator coordinates educational events and activities focusing on the Michif language. The Coordinator ensures that all activities are conducted in accordance with established Métis Nation of Ontario Policies and Procedures and transfer payment/contribution agreements. Working in collaboration with the Education & Training branch, other MNO branches, MNO leadership, MNO citizens, MNO contractors, and consultants, the Coordinator provides suggestions on implementing Metis languages while leading numerous events/presentations. The Coordinator attends and participates in MNO events as directed.

What you will be doing:

  • Ensure that Metis Language programming is delivered in the spirit and philosophy of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Statement of Prime Purpose.
  • Support MNO events.
  • Coordination of resources
  • Data collection and report preparation.
  • Provide education/information related to Metis Languages through workshops or group-based activities.
  • Recruiting and overseeing a base of volunteers for Metis Languages Advisory Committee.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and adhere to privacy legislation
  • Perform Administrative duties, and other duties as instructed by the Program Manager.
  • Financial reporting specific to your program site and budget.
  • Reflect Métis cultural approaches as a part of the activities and services.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities as time and financial resources permit.
  • Attend training and meetings outside Métis Nation of Ontario working hours.
  • Fulfill all other responsibilities as determined by the management of the Education and Training Branch.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit environment.
  • 1 or more years’ experience in client services experience.
  • 1 or more years’ experience working with all ages.
  • Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Work and PowerPoint)
  • Degree or diploma in Indigenous Studies or related field. 2-3 years of policy and project management experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the Métis Nation of Ontario and programs offered.
  • Knowledge of the history, culture, structure and issues of the Métis Nation of Ontario is an asset.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Well-developed administrative, organizational and communication skills to meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and availability to travel.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is mandatory; speaking or having experience with the Michif language would be an asset.
  • Effective interpersonal and liaison skills to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to present to management, public stakeholders and partners via written reports or verbal presentations.
  • Financial knowledge (budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting).
  • Innovative, creative, and detail-oriented and demonstrated research, analytical skills, and critical thinking.
  • Completion and maintenance of a Police Security Check if the successful candidate.
  • Valid First Aid and AED training.
  • Safe Food Handling Training Certificate that meets the requirements of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is an asset.
