We are seeking a HR Business Partner (HRBP) with a broad Human Resources and Industrial Relations background with a demonstrated track record of success in a manufacturing environment.

 

This position is located in Montreal, Quebec supporting four Montreal-area plants of which three are unionized.

 

The HR business partner (HRBP) will provide support to management and employees within assigned client groups, ensuring seamless HR service delivery and fostering positive employee engagement. In a HRBP capacity, you will support and manage programs and strategic initiatives related to a wide variety of areas as well as manage the labour relations.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Works closely with management at the plants to provide strategic direction on HR initiatives including staffing, retention, compensation, talent management, coaching, succession planning, employee relations, performance management, training and, employee engagement.
  • Understands the dynamics of the business and functions; driving best-in-class human resources practices and processes that will create an effective organization. Coaches key business leaders on leading and managing their organizations effectively. Diagnoses organizational effectiveness issues and implements solutions.
  • Leads recruitment for temporary and permanent hires at all sites and develops contract terms for all new hires.
  • Leads change management by working closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of local employment laws and legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Works closely with Health and Safety team and manages all workers’ compensation claims.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Develops effective communication plans for policy changes or program roll-outs.
  • May serve as program/project lead for initiatives across all sites or enterprise.
  • Advise and assist managers on the interpretation and application of the collective bargaining agreements and labour laws including any disputes concerning the bargaining agreement.
  • Cooperate closely with union representatives to build and maintain harmonious and constructive relationships between the employer and the unions.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • BS/BA in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or equivalent experience.
  • 8 to 10 years’ experience in Human Resources with some experience in Industrial Relations.
  • The ideal candidate is business-minded, comfortable dealing with management as well as employees in all company functional areas regarding all aspects of HR.
  • An assertive, flexible and common-sense work style that is proactive in communications and effective in building relationships at all levels within the company as well as external to the organization.
  • Solid analytical skills and demonstrated ability to solve problems quickly and creatively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an open and collaborative work style.
  • Must have proven ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change management efforts.
  • Thorough knowledge of provincial employment legislation.
  • Ability to handle several issues at once, as well as multiple collective bargaining agreements
  • Bilingual (English & French)
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Excel
  • Labour Relations experience in unionized manufacturing environment is an asset
