Traveling Exhibit – STEM Communicator

 

Six-month contract with potential for renewal. Positions available across Northern Ontario.

 

 

The ingenuity of First Peoples from North America is all around us. Visitors will have a chance to experience that first-hand when visiting the Indigenous Ingenuity: Timeless Inventions traveling exhibition. The exhibition prompts visitors to explore and celebrate the diversity, interconnectedness, and resourceful ways of knowing and being that Indigenous knowledge and innovations provide in the global community. Visitors will observe nature, listen to knowledge bearers, experiment with scientific principles, and transmit and share experiences with others!

 

Indigenous Ingenuity: Timeless Inventions travelling exhibit will be touring through 20 communities across Northern Ontario, spending multiple weeks in each community. We are looking for individuals with a willingness to travel regionally (accommodations provided where applicable), the ability to stay organized while on the road, experience in delivering programming to varied audiences and exceptional interpersonal skills. A commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, especially as these relate to Indigenous engagement and reconciliation is essential.   STEM Communicators will deliver Science North’s unique brand of hands-on science, engaging visitors from the community and supporting other Science North initiatives as they promote the exhibit.

 

 

The position requires a valid G driver’s license reflecting a 3-year safe driving record, a non-negotiable criterion.

 

 

Position highlights: 

 

  • Deliver quality, educational, and informal science experiences related to the customized version of the Indigenous Ingenuity travelling exhibit.
  • Actively champion and promote the exhibit and other Science North programs
  • Drive the travelling exhibit in a 26ft box truck (training provided) to predetermined host locations across Northern Ontario, install the exhibit and tear down the exhibit once it’s ready to move

 

 

Skills:

 

  • Fluency in English
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills

 

 

 

In addition to the above skills, successful candidates must be comfortable with public presentations, working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities, fluency in French is considered an asset.  The successful candidates will have the ability to work full-time hours with some evening/weekend work from now until September 30, 2024. $28/hour.
