Position: Senior Vice-President

Reports to: SSU President

Location: Davis (Brampton); Trafalgar (Oakville); OR HMC (Mississauga). You will predominantly work out of your home campus, but may need to travel between campuses as needed.

Term: May 1st, 2024 – April 30th, 2025. May start mid-April for training.

Pay rate: $21/hour

Hours: 15 - 20 hours per week 

Requirements: Be a full-time or part-time day time student at Sheridan College with a GPA of at least 2.5

General Responsibilities: 

As THE EXECUTIVE, you will assist in guiding and organizing the executive team and the board of directors to support and create initiatives, projects, events and opportunities. You will also be working with college partners to further support students on campus. As an executive leader, you will be working alongside our SSU President to implement campus objectives and goals that align with our organizational strategic plan. Through organizing, facilitating, and supporting many projects and initiatives on campus, your influence will help shape students’ Sheridan experience.

 

Qualifications: 

  • A successful candidate will have:
  • Exceptional written communication skills with a focus on detail;
  • Very strong time-management and organizational skills;
  • Proficient in creating schedules and organizing others;
  • Confidence in public speaking to groups of students, while hosting events and while representing the Sheridan Student Union;
  • A flexible schedule to be able to work a variety of hours during regular business hours (Between 8am and 6pm) with the rare possibility of night time shifts;
  • High level of focus and the ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner;
  • A creative mind to create new and innovative campus initiatives;
  • Familiarity and aptitude with popular social media platforms;
  • A self-motivated work-ethic with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment; and
  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with honesty and integrity.

 

Specific Duties Include:

  • It is important to note that this position covers a wide variety of responsibilities and will be ever-changing and adaptive. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Sit as an ex-officio Officer on the SSU Board of Directors with all rights and responsibilities that come with being an officer of the board;
  • Act as Board Secretary during all meetings of the board and general meetings, which will include:
    • Assisting with scheduling and facilitation of board meetings and general meetings;
    • Ensuring all board members have the required documents and information for each board meeting;
    • Helping to plan, coordinate, and facilitate general meetings as needed;
    • Monitoring and record directors’ attendance at each Board Meeting;
    • Managing and developing the board’s SharePoint portal; and
    • Other duties as requested by the board; 
  • Work with the President in developing projects, initiatives, and strategic objectives that align with the mission and vision of the Sheridan Student Union;
  • Attend staff meetings, planning committees, and collaborate with the college, as needed;
  • Collaborate with SSU Departments to support their needs by performing various tasks and duties, as directed by department managers and approved by the President;
  • Oversee and help organize Vice-Presidents’ initiatives and projects, while supporting as needed;
  • Help coordinate scheduling and communications for the executive team;
  • Assist in updating and honouring all SSU Bylaws and Policies;
  • Act as a secondary representative of the SSU alongside the Vice-Presidents;
  • Act in the capacity of the Vice-President and/or the President when they are unavailable or asrequested;
  • Attend retreats, events, and conferences as authorized by the President; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the President.
