Current Rate of Pay: Min = $111,420.40 ($60.02/hr), Max = $129,165.40 ($69.58/hr)

About the position:

As Senior Engineer, you will lead a technical team providing engineering expertise in flood-related engineering and risk management studies and participate in TRCA’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of structural flood mitigation and remedial work planning and implementation including undertaking flood remediation and mitigation Feasibility Studies, Environmental Assessments (EA), and Detailed Design.
  • Supports the development of public consultation initiatives through the EA process.
  • Leads engineering support, including project scoping, technical reviews, and report preparation specific to structural flood remediation and mitigation projects.
  • Supports partners with the preparation of infrastructure funding grants through the completion of flood remediation and mitigation Feasibility Studies and EA’s.
  • Manages flood communications internally and responds to external stakeholder inquiries regarding flood risk and flood communications.
  • Provides support during storm events including issuing internal communications and external liaison with stakeholders.
  • Provides project management and procurement support.
  • Provides on-call Flood Forecasting and Warning Program support after hours approximately 8-12 times per year.
  • Leads a team of staff including communicating schedules, tasks, and priorities.

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)

  • University degree in Civil/Environmental/Water Resource Engineering, or a specialization in related field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license

 

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in related engineering practice
  • 2+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory or project management experience

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies

  • Expert knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic computer models (e.g. HEC-RAS, MIKE Flood, Visual OTTHYMO, and PCSWMM).
  • Knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures and practices relevant to land use planning, environmental assessment act (provincial, CA, and federal), and water management.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Class and Conservation Authority Environmental Assessment process.
  • Ability to lead in high-pressure situations, for example during actual flood emergencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesise and QA data and prepare detailed summary reports.
