We are now hiring a Manager of Logistics at our Kitchener location!
Position Summary:
- The Manager of Logistics will play a crucial role in leading, managing, and driving accountability for our Dispatch, routing and Inbound teams. Reporting to the Director of Transportation, this position requires a strong leader with extensive experience in the transportation industry, specifically in managing Dispatch operations, route design and inbound transportation. Working closely with functional leaders across all branches, this position is responsible for optimizing the performance of the groups, controlling inbound costs, and ensuring routes are optimized.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Provide strong leadership to the Traffic team, fostering a safety-first, positive and collaborative work environment.
- Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team.
- Set performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Encourage a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Have oversight in coordinating the entire logistics stream, order creation, carrier arrangements, setting up shipments, scheduling pickups, and tracking shipments, dispatch management.
- Utilizes technical skills to influence, motivate change and meet organizational goals.
- Support Flanagan’s Purpose, Vision, Mission and Values in everything they do.
Inbound Logistics:
- Oversee a team that is responsible for planning and implementing daily milk runs into all three Distribution centre’s (Kitchener, Whitby and Sudbury).
- Develop and implement strategies to improve inbound processes and cut costs without affecting delivery time or quality.
- Ensure SOP’s and workflows are created and updated to assist in training and development.
- Monitors the utilization of delivery services by reviewing the coordination of backhaul functions and other routing/scheduling activities in an effort to increase the profitability of all delivery services.
- Liaison between inbound traffic and procurement /sales/customers.
Dispatch
- Oversee the Daily tracking and tracing of inbound shipments, oversee management of shipment exceptions and on-time delivery.
- Oversee the team to ensure all cross-border documentation/regulatory compliance is followed.
- Ensure SOP’s and workflows are created and updated to assist in training and development.
- Carrier/3PL score carding for inbound/outbound shipments.
- Acts quickly to restore order, when issues arise, to minimize impact to Just-In-Time Inventory, exception based management.
Outbound Logistics (Routing)
- Oversee a team of outbound routing coordinators to ensure routes are optimized both by cube and miles.
- Ensure team is trained and using the optimization tools.
- Review routing and provide feedback and updates on a scheduled basis.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of transportation operations.
- Analyze data and identify trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Decision-making:
- Makes independent decisions on a daily basis and in collaboration with functional leaders and Operation Managers which will positively impact the overall business operations and effect appropriate change.
Key Relationships:
- All functional leaders across all Flanagan branches.
- Warehouse Operation Managers and Supervisors.
- Company Drivers.
- 3rd Party Carriers.
- Owner Operators.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience working in logistics, warehouse, or transportation operations at a Manager level or higher.
- Previous experience within the food service distribution industry.
- Experienced leader, influencing various cross functional teams.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office products including Excel.
- Previous experience working with a Transportation Management System.
- College or University diploma/degree with focus on business, operations management, transportation and logistics.
- Firm grasp of supply chain, inventory, distribution, business, and management principles.
- Knowledge of Lean, process improvement methodologies.
- Proven expertise in creating and deploying tactical plans.
- Genuine interpersonal skills and strong ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Excellent planning, problem solving skills, analytical skills and investigation skills.
- Ability to manage, coach, and provide training for direct reports.
- Managing change effectively to ensure minimal disruption to business operations and positive impact to operational successes.
- High resistance to stress and pressure, including the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting deadlines.
- Able to build consensus, resolve conflicts and negotiate.
- Must consistently demonstrate a high level of integrity, dependability and professionalism at all times.
- Will be expected to travel to other branch locations in Ontario.
- Must have valid driver’s license and own vehicle which can be used for business purposes as required.
